Cell-phone users text more than place calls

"How r u" has outpaced the more traditional, spoken greeting as a recent study shows U.S. mobile-phone users send and receive more text messages than telephone calls.
During the second quarter of 2008, the typical cell-phone user sent or received 357 text messages per month, while placing or receiving 204 calls, according to research released last week by Nielson Mobile.

MAKUHARI — Growth in the mobile phone industry, according to Kiyoyuki Tsujimura, executive vice president of Japan's NTT Docomo, who delivered a keynote speech Wednesday here at the CEATEC Japan consumer electronics show, will depend more and more on "quality" Internet-based services based on "open"
that allow handset makers to market their devices globally.
